Business Development Manager (Packaging)

Location: Remote (U.S. Territory) | Full-Time

The Business Development Manager is an experienced business development professional who will drive success of our aluminum can bodies & can ends segment. This individual will manage the entire sales cycle beginning with new client acquisition to account management.

Their responsibilities will include building relationships with global brands, co-packing facilities, and other beverage manufacturing sites. You are results-oriented and have shown a capacity to think outside the box, finding ways to leverage your past sales experience to best pitch our offerings to prospective clients. You are not discouraged by “no” but welcome the challenge of developing and closing new leads in a brand new territory.

  • Identify potential clients, their needs, and their decision makers
  • Cold calling prospective clients
  • Attend face-to-face meetings with clients
  • Be flexible to travel to clients’ facilities to build/maintain the relationship and to understand their operations
  • Be comfortable speaking about technical specifications of our product offerings
  • Initiate onboarding calls, present effective and compelling product offering propositions & pricing in a concise manner
  • Review & facilitate the completion/revision of new sales contracts
  • Maintain existing client relationships to grow and identify other opportunities to help client procurement of packaging materials
  • Seek opportunities with local partners including co-packers, manufacturing partners, breweries, distilleries, etc.
  • Provide customer insights and feedback to business team, and work collaboratively to propose improvements on product offerings
  • You will work independently in this role while being supported by the ALNA team
  • Problem solve and think of solutions to best present product offering to clients despite the global challenges of freight, minimum order quantities, etc.
  • Occasionally coordinate the set-up, attendance, and facilitation of trade shows to network with potential clients
  • Provide continuous feedback to support product development initiatives and improvements to existing SOP’s
  • Organize weekly reports to management group to communicate status of customer leads and identify any follow-up actions required
  • Degree in Business or Marketing or a combination of relevant and comparable work experience
  • A minimum of five years of experience in Business Development, Sales, and Marketing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preference for an individual who has had experience in the packaging sector and have previously worked within the aluminum can bodies & can ends manufacturers or suppliers
  • A team player who adds complementary skills and contributes valuable ideas, opinions, and feedback to help the business grow
  • Demonstrated success in launching and maintaining asuccessful brand portfolio
  • Experience in sales and business development with a confirmed history of meeting and exceeding sales or business growth targets
  • Experience in the beverage manufacturing, co-packing, and CPGpackaging industry is an asset
  • Tried experience in negotiating with senior leaders and business decision-makers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Independent self-starter, who becomes comfortable with minimal oversight and supervision
  • Creative problem solver with confirmed track-record for crafting outstanding solutions to achieve results
  • Enjoys working with numbers to help substantiate sales pitches

RESPONSIBILITIES:
•
Following up with freight forwarder from both the origin and destination countries to ensure all customs documentation are correctly prepared and complied according to customs regulation
• Live-tracking shipment status and closely communicating with customers to ensure all shipments are picked up and empty containers are returned in a timely manner, minimizing demurrage / detention charge occurred
• Managing drayage, customs clearance and releasing clients’ orders from warehouse; Closely communicating with customs broker and vendor to prevent delays due to customs hold or other situations
• Ensuring shipment status is timely updated in company system
• Closely monitoring company’s local inventory, maintaining safety stock and ensure visibility of stock level, incoming and outgoing order
• Reviewing and processing payment requisition to Accounting team, ensure logistics-related charges are well-managed
• Developing and building good relationship with third party service providers
• Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor / manager

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:
•
Post-secondary education in Logistics and Supply Chain Management or equivalent experience
• At least 1 year of international freight forwarding experience, especially in ocean freight
• Knowledge of US / Canada Customs regulation is an asset
• Detail-oriented, excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills
• A problem solver with “can-do” attitude
• Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); MS Project
• Fluent English. Bilingual in Mandarin is a plus
